dynamic WAN Relay

New Relay Features – Dynamic WAN and Fail Open

We have long supported dynamic DNS entries for WAN IP interfaces in network-based deployments at ScoutDNS. While this feature has been sufficient for most users without a static IP address, it has not been adequate for certain deployments involving double NAT (such as satellite connections) or very fast-changing WAN IPs (as with trains or other high-speed travel).

Enter Dynamic WAN Support

When enabled, the ScoutDNS relay will no longer depend on any known WAN IP interface after its initial cloud-based adoption. Instead, the relay will use a unique identifier, similar to our roaming clients, to track usage. This usage remains linked to the site or location for logging purposes, so no site or query visibility is lost.

Fail-Open Relay

Although our global anycast network has never experienced widespread regional outages, relay deployments on mission-critical networks can now enable the fail-open state on their relays. This allows you to configure up to four third-party DNS resolvers as fail-open upstream services, providing maximum uptime protection against localized and regional peering issues and offering IT teams greater peace of mind.

A League of Its Own

With Dynamic WAN Support and fail-open features, combined with our fully cloud-managed and configured capabilities, the ScoutDNS Relay stands as the most feature-rich easy to configure fail-safe relay solution among its peers.
